I’ve lost cool points among my indie friends for loving the music of Billy Joel. Don’t care. His stuff is great. Show tunes for rock fans, indeed. More popular music should have that level of easily-accessed depth.
Somehwere deep in the back of my mind I remeber Onyx being interviewed on MTV, and one of them smiling before catching himself and making sure to overcorrect on the mean mugging.
Also: I played that SWV track recently. Can confirm: still a banger.
Mr Lisa and I were talking the other day of the influence "It's the End of the World as We Know It (And I feel Fine)" was on "We Didn't Start the Fire." Mr Lisa was CONVINCED Joel's song came first and I trumped him with a hell no. Anyway, we did agree that we'd like to see Joel live. He's perfection for aging alternative hipsters.
'River of Dreams' is Billy Joel's resignation letter [August 22, 1993]

Very well researched and written as always Bernard! SWV had a very TLC sound didn’t they. PS please come to Threads. -Ben
I'm seeing Billy Joel in a whole new light.
